DUEÑAS MANIFESTO FOR 2026
Inspiring ourselves in how we live to change how we dress
Antonio Bellido
Sometimes we look towards Northern Europe with a certain wariness, as if the only things that interested us there were those endless weeks of maternity leave, their homes where everything seems minimal yet chic, that clean aesthetic that has almost become a myth. I haven’t travelled there yet, but I feel as if I’ve already been. And yet, I know they are much more than everything we tend to romanticise.
Maybe that’s why they remind me of the Basque people. That North I’ve been lucky enough to know, along with Navarre. There too, people are seen with a certain distance: they have high salaries, they wear a style that seems effortless but is actually that “careful nonchalance planned down to the last detail”. It’s a land that smells of embracing constant change. And yes, that’s something they also wear.
Because it’s not that they dress informally; it’s that they invest more in what they wear, in pieces that follow their pace and their values. They join causes that may not affect them directly, but that they feel are unjust. From there come the changes. The improvements. The new ways of inhabiting life. And from there, too, a way of dressing is born: honest, resilient, quietly revolutionary.

We are a brand from the South, and we deeply love the South. The sun, slow drinks by the sea, that way life spreads without asking for permission. But we’ve always said we are a little bit South and a little bit North. That we look beyond without letting go of what’s here. Because even though Spanish craftsmanship is among the best in the world, and we’re lucky to produce in one of the finest leather-goods regions, it’s often the countries in the North that are the first to truly value work made by expert hands, with head and with heart.

I dream of a time when we learn to recognize what’s ours. When remembering that the local matters doesn’t come with comparisons or resentment. When we understand that the fight is also about taking care of what we do at home, that community is not a romantic idea but a way of living.

At Dueñas we say it often: buy well to feel better. It starts when, even if something doesn’t affect you directly, you know the fight belongs to everyone. That together we are stronger. That progress is never a competition between territories, but a calm dialogue that learns from each place.

We adore Copenhagen, of course we do. We admire its rhythm, its innovation, its ability to be a centre without needing to be the protagonist. But we also know that to move forward we don’t need to look up with envy, but look inward with conviction.

Because in the end, the South and the North – the real ones and the symbolic ones – meet. And there, right there, is where Dueñas wants to continue its story.

At Dueñas we talk about...
WHEN WE SAY CRAFTSMANSHIP WITHOUT GETTING OUR HANDS DIRTY
From the beginning, everything was built on hope, and it still is. Along the way, we worked with stylists and artists we admired, though they didn’t always value the time and truth we put into each piece. Even so, we continue to believe in craftsmanship as respect, care, and honesty. Every bag we make in Ubrique is a dialogue between tradition and our contemporary vision. And even if the word “artisanal” wears out, we keep creating from what is alive and authentic.

DUEÑAS OF THE TRANSITION II
Paula had a “perfect” life in the city, but she felt empty inside. When she went alone to a small coastal town, she realized her job no longer represented her. When she returned, she turned down a promotion and chose something more her own: creating rural tourism experiences and writing by the sea, even without guarantees. The hardest part wasn’t changing jobs, but explaining a choice that didn’t fit any label. For her, being an Owner means choosing without certainties and truly listening to herself — noticing where her breath expands and where her heart beats with excitement. Her advice: start small. Do one day differently, ask yourself an honest question. You don’t need all the answers to start becoming the woman you already feel you can be.

IF LIFE GIVES YOU MEMES, THERE’S A BRAND

PARIS TURNS DOWN THE VOLUME
Fashion is shifting course: leaving behind the obsession with virality and reclaiming authenticity, calm, and craftsmanship. In Paris, brands are choosing coherence and soul over impact. Loewe, Rick Owens, and Proenza Schouler explore origin, material, and the truth of the gesture. Dueñas joins this movement — creating with intention, listening to time, and returning to origin as a form of quiet revolution.

A BAG FOREVER
The text reflects on how handbags are a mirror of our way of consuming: the fleeting versus what endures. An anecdote in Madrid reveals that appearance is not enough; true quality lies in the invisible details that make an accessory strong. In Ubrique, cradle of leather craftsmanship, the lesson emerges: an authentic bag ages with dignity and builds identity.More than fashion, it is memory and silent companionship. In the end, it is not about accumulation, but about choosing pieces that speak of who we are.

MADRID BEATS WITH STRENGTH
Madrid has pulsed like never before and has secured its place on the global fashion map: Carolina Herrera in Plaza Mayor, Palomo with his leap into the feminine, and the return of Adolfo Domínguez with Zenit made us vibrate. This is, without a doubt, one of the parts that moved us the most: seeing the capital transform into root, memory, and future of fashion, ready to leave its mark on a new international stage.
