How quickly we learn to demand, and how little we demand of ourselves to be better. In a landscape saturated with opinions, fleeting trends, and external validations, we sometimes forget the importance of looking inward. Of pausing. Of engaging in self-critique.
We are right in that process: analyzing, reorganizing, and improving. When we shaped this project, we set the bar very high. We chased perfection so fiercely that, without realizing it, we drifted away from reality. We wanted to be taken seriously. Today, what we want is to be real. To draw closer to you. For you to see what truly lies behind.
We profoundly admire designers like Jonathan Anderson, Simon Porte Jacquemus, Peter Do, and brands like The Row. Not only for their obvious talent, but for the silent elegance with which they build coherent universes. They inspire us because they don’t shout. Because they don’t need to over-explain themselves. Because they trust in time, in form, in detail. They remind us that noise doesn’t always equal impact.
From the beginning, Dueñas has been a project built from affection, not controversy. We’re not interested in provocation for its own sake. We’re interested in building something that endures, something with soul. That’s why, every time someone—especially someone we admire—contacts us to request one of our bags, we feel a mix of pride and gratitude that’s hard to put into words.
Although, we confess, a small sadness sometimes creeps in. Because there are those who have ordered pieces, who have bet on our work… but then haven’t shown them. Not out of obligation, nor for marketing. Simply because we believe that making visible what you value is also a form of respect. Not only to us, but to everyone in the chain that makes it possible. Behind each piece there is time, there are hands, there are stories. We would love, if something we’ve created has resonated with you, for you to share it. Because beyond the momentary rush, what truly moves us is that someone chooses something made with our hands, our ideas, and our doubts. For an independent brand, that means everything.
This year, like every year, we looked forward to our holidays. But this time, we took them with greater awareness—not as an escape, but as an opportunity to pause, reflect, and choose again. Because this project doesn’t run on autopilot. It demands presence. It demands difficult decisions, uncomfortable conversations, and necessary breaks. Because, beyond creating, we also work outside this dream. Dueñas is not a whim; it’s a constant commitment.
Along the way, we’ve been fortunate to surround ourselves with people who have contributed both personally and professionally. Collaborations that have not only enriched the project, but reminded us of what truly matters: the quality of our bonds, mutual respect, and the coherence between what we say and what we do.
We believe in stopping. In asking ourselves uncomfortable questions:
What are we doing well and what are we doing poorly?
What must we improve?
What are we willing to defend, even when it’s difficult?
We’ve often been told we “were born in the wrong era.” Maybe that’s true. Or maybe we’re here precisely for that: to question the status quo. To add, even if only in a small way, a more human, more ethical, more authentic way of doing things.
We don’t believe in excuses. Nor in complaints. We know it doesn’t all depend on having the best camera, the most sought-after model, or the perfect budget. True creativity often springs from limitation.
We’re going on holiday. But we’re not completely disconnecting. Dueñas continues to beat. It transforms. It slips into the everyday. It awaits you when you least expect it.
We will return in September with new ideas, renewed enthusiasm, and the same conviction as always: to do things with meaning and truth.
Thank you for being here.
Thank you for reading us, for choosing us, for accompanying us.
